Rob Wanders sings Mickey Newbury
by Rob Wanders
Last year, for the first time, I came in contact with the music of the singer/songwriter Mickey Newbury (1940-2002). Actually I already knew one song of him: An American Trilogy. Elvis Presley made this song famous. One day, I decided to listen to the original version from Mickey and I was immediately captivated by the melancholy and beauty of his voice and songs. It was the same overwhelming experience as when I discovered the music and voices of Elvis Presley and Tim Buckley.
I bring love songs closer to my own feelings, emotions and perception, by changing the subject of that love from a woman to that of a man. I do this on this cd.
Here is my homage to “The best songwriter you’ve (probably) never heard of.”
